Obituary

William Alexander Campbell, aka "Boom", 74, went home to be with his Lord, August 17, 2024 in Boone, NC. Billy was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 24, 1949 to the late Robert Scott Campbell and Irene Prior Campbell. He was preceded in death by his sister Carol Habel. Billy grew up in Boardman, Ohio where he was an outstanding track and cross country star. He was an avid tennis player at Deer Valley where he held many records. Billy served in the US Army in Vietnam from February 1969 until October 1970.

Many family members will cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Ginny Campbell, the Jessica Beckner family: Rob, Payton and Jackson, the Tabitha Lazear family: David, Lia, Nora, Tessa and Maddox, his brother Robert Campbell (Linda), brother-in-law, Les Habel, five nieces and nephews, and his life-long best friend Danny Herman.

As Billy would say, 'after kicking around the country', he made Boone, NC his home for the past 35 years forging friendships along the way. Billy and Ginny spend their winters in Viera, Florida close to their Grandchildren and family. Summers would always find them returning to their beloved mountain home where they spent time and entertained many friends and family.

Billy was blessed with the gift of appreciating everyone he met. Whether it was years at Bradshaw Ford, Echota, or his retirement job as Starter/Ranger at Hound Ears Club, he easily got to know those he encountered. His Fantasy Football Family at the Town Tavern Blowing Rock succeeded in bringing him much joy during football season.

Boom's love for his family was unwavering! His support, love and guidance shaped the lives of those he loved, especially his grandchildren. The kids will always remember him for his encouraging words "behave" and "common sense", followed by a chuckle and grin from ear to ear.

He will be deeply missed, but the legacy of Love, Kindness and Devotion to his family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in North Carolina for the summer season of 2025.
