Verdie Victoria Yates Broyhill, age 93, of Mountain City, passed away Saturday October 29, 2022.

She was born June 28, 1929, in Watauga County. A daughter of the late Barthlow and Molly Brown Yates.

She is survived by one daughter, Janice Icenhour and husband, Bill of Mountain City; two sisters, Martha Reece and husband, Johnny of Boone, Susie Townsend and husband, Denver of Lenoir; one brother, Claude Yates of Lenoir; one daughter-in-law, Kate Broyhill of Hudson; four grandchildren, Amy Kay Ward and husband, Mike of Crossnore, Melissa Broyhill Oakes and husband, Ronald of Mabel, Scott Broyhill of Mountain City, and Steve Icenhour of Mountain City; seven great-grandchildren. Joseph Icenhour, Madeline Icenhour, Ellie Beth Icenhour, Klye Ward, Ashley Ward, Zachary Oakes, Natalie Townsend, and Benjamin Oakes; and five great, great-grandchildren, Kaelynn, Brynlee, Levi, Markus, and Jack.

In addition to her father and mother she was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald, "J D" Broyhill; two sons Jimmie and Jack Broyhill; two brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral service for Verdie Victoria Yates Broyhill will be conducted on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend John Sawyer will officiate. Interment will follow in Hampton Brown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00, prior to the service.
