Robert (Bob) Lee Long Jr., age 79, died Wednesday December 20th at home with his family around him after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born March 15th, 1944, in Wilkes County, the son of the late Robert Lee Long Sr. and Laura Lucille Taylor Long.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Linda Farthing Long; daughters Sheree Abery and husband, Julian of Mooresville; Shannon Blevins and husband Keith of West Jefferson; Stacey Gardner and husband Mason of Newland; and sister Pamela Myers of Hamptonville; and three grandchildren, William Abery, Sarah Abery, and Connor Blevins.

Bob built a successful grading and construction business based in Boone, NC, serving many in the community with his exceptional ability to grade and build roads and home sites. He was instrumental in grading and building the roads of Chetola Resort, including the lake, that is enjoyed to this day by all who visit.

As with everything he set his mind to, Bob was an expert hunter and fisherman who passed on that love of the outdoors to his grandchildren, with many happy days spent on the lake or in the woods.

Bob will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Funeral service for Bob Long will be conducted Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 1:00 O'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Daniel Featherstone and Reverend Jody Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow in Farthing Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 1:00, prior to the service at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.
