Pattie Huffman, a cherished wife, mother, Nan Nan, and friend will be forever missed and remembered by the many lives she touched.  She lived a full life devoted in service to her Lord, family, and friends.

Pattie was born on February 22, 1948 in Emporia, KS to the late Loyd and Mattiemarie White.  She attended Chowan College where she met her beloved late husband, Roger Huffman.  She went on to graduate from Longwood University.

Pattie and Roger moved to Boone, NC where she thrived raising her children while supporting Roger and his business, The Floor Shop, Inc.  During this time, she worked at Appalachian State University in the Archives department, Registrar's office, and as secretary to the Colonel of ROTC. Pattie and Roger were members of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and led children and youth through different ministries.  Pattie was a dedicated church member that served on the Hospitality Committee, the Welcoming Team, the Missions Committee, the Benevolence Committee, in the nursery, and by leading Girls in Action.  Pattie and Roger loved raising their children in this community surrounded by many family and friends with whom they shared many fond memories.

When Pattie lost her husband, she was called to foreign missions where she (with her dear daughter, Avee) put her gifts of hospitality and service into action.  She served as the Baptist Center Host in Jos, Nigeria for 6 years giving missionaries a home away from home where they could rest and rejuvenate.  During her time in Africa, "Mama Pattie" formed lifelong friendships with the women that she was able to share her many gifts with like sewing, loving God, and dancing in the rain.

Pattie was a talented seamstress who loved to teach others how to sew (a gift she gave to so many, but was most treasured by her children and grandchildren).  Upon returning to Boone, Pattie worked at Samaritan's Purse and was able to turn her love of missions to her community. She volunteered at Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living where she led her friends in quilting childrens' blankets to be kept in Watauga County Sheriff and Police departments' patrol cars.  She enjoyed leading Bible Truth classes at De La Cruz Farms and hosting pillowcase dress workshops where mothers, daughters, and women of all generations could gather to make dresses for children around the world.

Pattie was an example of true strength and determination.  When she received her Parkinson's disease diagnosis, she steadfastly researched and learned how to live a long and fulfilling life with the disease. Wanting to share that knowledge, Pattie co-founded the High Country Parkinson's Support Group so that those fighting the disease could learn from experts that helped them attain their motto: "Learning to Live and Thrive with Parkinson's."

Despite Pattie's many public contributions, Pattie's most precious lesson that she taught was the importance of family.  She loved each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild dearly and was incredibly proud of each of them. She was so loved by each of us and we will miss her deeply until we meet her again.

Pattie is survived by her children; Heather Huffman, Judd and Brooke Huffman, Amanda and Stephen Rhyne, Avee Huffman, and her bonus son, Brian Bond; her grandchildren, Caitlyn and Keenen Mull, Gray and Mackenzie Huffman, Emerson Huffman, Sadie Mac Rhyne, Noah Rhyne, Eli Rhyne, grandchild of the heart, Gabe; great grandchild, Christopher Jace Huffman; her brother and his wife, Loyd and Kathy White; and many loving friends that she considered family.

Funeral services for Pattie will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Reverend Bud Russell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 15, 2023 from 6 until 8 PM at Hampton Funeral Home.
