Neddie Hubert Bentley, age 87 of Boone, passed away September 22nd, 2026. Born March 4th, 1939, in Watauga County. He was the son of the late Roby and Ollie Bentley and was one of 12 children. Ned was preceded in death by the love of his life, Wanda. They were married for 65 years.

Ned was a retired professional long-distance truck driver, receiving prestigious safe driving awards for over 25 years of his career. He was a long-term Atlanta Braves fan, a devoted follower of the Little League World Series games. He enjoyed feeding the birds and tending to flowers on his deck that honored his late wife.

Ned was a man of faith, a hard worker, and a good provider for his family. He enjoyed a good joke, and if Ned teased you, you knew that he liked you and called you a friend.

Throughout his life, Ned enjoyed gardening and maintaining a beautiful lawn. In later years, he enjoyed baking muffins to share with neighbors along with the meals he created in his crockpot. He never met a boiled peanut that he didn’t enjoy eating.

With deep appreciation, Ned’s children would like to thank his neighbors for being his best friends over the years. Each one of you had a special place in both our parent’s hearts, and we consider you family.

Ned is survived by two sisters, Katie Shore, of Blowing Rock; and Brenda (R.A.) Cornett of Vilas; and one brother, Sam (Betty) Bentley of Vilas. One daughter, Kaye Bentley (Sue) of Asheville; two sons, Frayne Bentley (Rose) of Auburn, Georgia; and Joe Bentley (Shelley), of West Jefferson; two granddaughters, Beatrice and Carley, and one grandson, Kelton.

In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Bill, Reed, Lewis, and sisters, Earlene, Maggie, Pauline, Maryann.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks considering a donation to St. Judes Children's Hospital, a charity that Ned believed in and supported.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at 2:00pm with visitation beginning at 1:00pm at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, Boone, NC. Reverend Mitch Marlowe will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens in Boone, NC.
