Deep Gap
Deep Gap, NC- Melvin Trivette, age 104, of Deep Gap, NC, died at The Foley Center on September 21, 2023, just four days short of 105. He was born on September 25, 1918, to Jefferson and Hattie Greer Trivette in Fleetwood, NC. He grew up in Ashe County attending church at Liberty Grove Baptist Church on Sunday mornings and on Sunday afternoons attending Cranberry Springs Methodist Church.
He married Hallie Triplett, April 29, 1950. They moved to Orchard Road, Deep Gap, in 1951, sharecropping with the Kerhoulas Family. In 1954 he moved to where he lived on Orchard Road until he went to The Foley Center in 2018. He built some chicken houses and was well known as "the eggman." He loved to deer hunt and killed his last deer at the age of 98. He was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII.
He is survived by two sons, Alvin Trivette and wife, Elaine; Kevin Trivette and wife Edna, both of Deep Gap; a daughter, Marcella Proffit and husband, David of Boone; grandchildren, Phoebe Pittman (T.J.), Tabitha Proffit, Natasha Guy (Kevin), Dale Trivette, and step-grandson, Benjamin Hicks; a great grandson, Garrison and great-granddaughter, Arianna, sisters-in-law, Julia Faye Trivette, Della Trivette and Mary Trivette. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Hallie Trivette, father and mother, Jefferson and Hattie Greer Trivette, brothers, Leonard, Clemon and J.L. Trivette; sisters, Eula Smith, Elmina Wilcox Summerlin, Opal Crane Royal Wilkerson Bumgarner, Dessie Roark, half-brothers, Marvin and Garney Trivette, half-sisters, Louvenia Woodring and Defina Church and great-granddaughter, Tara Guy.
A Graveside Service will be conducted 11:00 AM, Monday, September 25, 2023, at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens with Pastor Gordon Noble officiating. Military Honors will be offered by U.S. Army, the Watauga American Legion Post #130, and the DAV Chapter 90.
