Mary Lee Proffit, 96 years of age, passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2023. Mary Lee was born April 2, 1927 in Watauga County to Jacob Frank and Lois Miller Winebarger. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Proffit of 64 years, her sister Pauline Bryan and brother-in-law Earl Bryan. She was a member of Proffit's Grove Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker and worked at Trailway Laundry for several years. During the Christmas season, she worked for Wilcox Drug Company making Christmas wreaths and roping for 40 years. She was a successful Avon lady for 25 years achieving top salesperson in her district for many of those years. Her greatest accomplishment and legacy for her family was being the hands and feet of Jesus as a caregiver. She dedicated her entire life for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, "Granny" and great "Granny" taking much pride in caring for each grandchild. She loved working in her flowers, gardening, canning, embroidering, and quilting.

Those left to cherish her memories include daughters Linda Critcher (husband Critch) and Kay Wood; Grandson Tracy Critcher (wife Emily); Granddaughters Ashley Critcher and Emily Reynolds (husband John); Great Grandsons Cooper, Finley and Olson Critcher; Sister-in-law Jewel Thomas (husband Albert); Special friends Earlene Holaday and Evonne Settle. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to express a heart-felt appreciation and gratitude to her loving caregivers Wanda Coles, Libby Miller, Ann Norris, and to the wonderful, caring staff of Gentiva Hospice.

Funeral Services for Mary Lee Winebarger Proffit will be conducted on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Eric Proffit and Rev. Ken Boaz. Graveside services will follow at Proffit's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
