Mary Lee Thompson, age 93, of Avondale, PA, passed away on Sunday,  November 26,2023, at Riddle Hospital. She was the wife of Arthur Thompson who passed away in 1992,and with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in  Swords Creek, VA, she was the daughter of the late Willard Hess and the late Elsie Howington Hess.

Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, gardening, taking care of children, listening to Ministers and Judy on TV, cooking, canning, and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by one son,  Leonard and his wife Gloria of Maryland; one daughter, Mary Heck of West  Grove, PA; one brother, Millard Hess of Mountain City, TN; two sisters, Ellen Dancy and husband Jack of Boone ,NC and Shelba Hicks of Mountain City, twelve grandchildren ( Mary Thompson and her husband Kevin Smith lived with her grandmother ) and twenty nine great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by two sons, Arthur Thompson and Randy Thompson; two daughters, Audrey Thompson and Shirley Thompson; four brothers, Donald Hess, John Hess, Wesley Hess and Willis Hess and one sister, Frances Presnell.

A Graveside service  will be held at 10:00 Wednesday morning, December 6,2023 at the Union Hill Cemetery, Route 82, Kennett Square, PA.
