Maria George Kostis, 97, of Vilas, NC, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Ms. Kostis was born May 8, 1925, in Sigkrellos, Greece to the late George Floros and the late Vasiliki Floros.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Savvas Kostis; son, Billy Kostis; stepmother, Chrisoula Floros; brother, Gus Floros; uncles, George Galanis and Spyros Galanis; and aunt, Kostantou Galanis.

Maria moved to the United States with her husband and three sons in 1968. They lived in Harrisonburg, Virginia as well as Palmetto and Bradenton, Florida before settling in North Carolina.

Maria is survived by two sons, George Kostis and wife, Tina (Vilas, NC); Jimmy Kostis and wife, Cindy (Vilas, NC); grandsons Savva Kostis and wife, Stephanie; Demetreus Kostis and fiancée, Cassie Delk; and Dylan Beech; great-granddaughter, Amara Kostis; and cousins Eftixia Vroulakis, Fafo Makris, Koula Karageorge, and Thea Hondros.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church at 326 East Main Street in Jefferson, NC on Tuesday, January 17 at 2:30pm.  Burial will follow at a later date in Sigkrellos, Greece.  The family will welcome friends beginning at 2pm prior to the service, and at other times at George and Tina's home.
