Karen Ann Frauman

June 27, 1937, to August 27, 2023

Karen Ann Frauman, passed away peacefully on August 27th at the age of 86.  A longtime resident of the Fort Lauderdale area, she moved to Florida from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a teenager and attended the original Fort Lauderdale High School.  She graduated from Stetson University with a degree in Business.  Karen taught preschool, was a dedicated wife and parent, and known in the neighborhood as a very kind person whose door was always open to the neighborhood kids.  She regularly played the piano and was very accomplished.  Karen and her husband Ted loved to take vacations in their pop-up camper, traveling as far as southern California in the late 80's.  She spent lots of family time at the beach and area parks, as well as supported her two sons in youth sports as a scorekeeper and "super parent".  Once her sons were in high school, she spent the next 23 years working in the Broward County School system as an administrative assistant.  In retirement, she became an avid birdwatcher participating in yearly Audubon Society bird counts, volunteered at the Humane Society, attended Florida Marlins baseball games with her husband, and very much enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Eric (Laura) and David (Debra), three grandsons, Stephen, Jason and Andrew, her sister, Kathleen (Steve), brother-in-law Tom, and three nieces, Kerstin, Kari and Kelly.  She joins her husband, Theodore "Ted" Frauman, a longtime teacher in the Broward County School system whom she was married to for nearly 58 years, her parents, Ann and Norman Klages, and her sister Karlene.

Karen wanted to be remembered by the following: "I loved my family and friends.  I tried to be a friend to all who wanted me as a friend.  I loved God."

A "Celebration of Life" will be held in her honor in Coconut Creek, Florida, later this year.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or any organization that cares for animals in need.  If you would like to share a story or see more information about Karen, please visit www.Legacy.com.
