Obituary

Joseph "Ralph" Jolly Jr.

December 13, 1962 – May 5, 2026

Joseph "Ralph" Jolly Jr., 63, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2026, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

Ralph was a longtime resident of Birmingham, Alabama, where he built a life centered on his deep love for family, faith, and community. A proud graduate of Vanderbilt University, he remained a lifelong and optimistic Commodores fan, always cheering them on with unwavering loyalty.

Ralph was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and constant willingness to show up for the people he loved. He loved his family deeply and well, always making time to be present. Whether attending events for his children, Sarah and Stewart, or taking Stewart to golf tournaments over the years, Ralph was always there—supportive, encouraging, and fully engaged. His presence was a steady source of strength and comfort to those who knew him.

He found joy in the simple things—especially time on the golf course and working in his yard. Ralph was also a true master of the grill, often cooking out at least four times a week. He cherished his trips to Blowing Rock, a place that brought him peace and happiness. He also enjoyed keeping up with the weather in Birmingham, Blowing Rock, and Columbia, South Carolina—where Stewart and his family live—always staying connected to the places and people he loved most.

A devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Ralph faithfully served as treasurer for many years. His dedication reflected both his deep faith and his quiet commitment to serving others.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Stewart Jolly; his daughter-in-law, Abbey Hill; his two grandsons, Joseph and Waters; and his sisters, Judy, Anne, and Lois, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah, who passed away four years earlier, and by his parents, Ralph and Jeanne Jolly.

Ralph will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the steadfast love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A service to celebrate Ralph's life will be announced in the coming months.
