Joan Thomas Campbell, age 80, of Zionville passed away Thursday. October 12, 2023, at Mountain City Care and Rehab.

She was born January 27, 1943, in Baltimore Maryland. A daughter of the late Lee and Winnie Jones Thomas. Joan was a teacher assistant for over 30 years at Mabel Elementary School. Along with her full-time job, she worked alongside her husband David "Red" Cambell in the hay fields, tobacco patches and vegetable gardens. Her favorite garden to work in was her flower garden. She was especially proud of her dahlias.

Joan had many friends and cherished time spent with them. Some were long time friends from her high school days. Some of her fondest memories were playing on the Cove Creek High School basketball team. She has always been an avid sports fan.

Joan loved her church and church family at Union Baptist Church where she was an active member for many years. She loved her two girls and sons-in-law and adored her three grandsons and their wives. She was very proud of the character and the lives they built together. Her five great granddaughters were her pride and joy.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynne Isaacs and husband Steve of Vilas and Sue Combs and husband Lynn of Zionville, three grandsons, David Combs and wife Amanda of Zionville, Daniel Combs and wife Ashley of Zionville, and Thomas Isaacs and wife Sydeena of Vilas, five great-granddaughters, Harper and Hadley Combs of Zionville, Olivia and Adeline Combs of Zionville and Leora Isaacs of Vilas, four sisters-in-law, Rosedna Thomas of Zionville, Dorothy Yates and husband Henry of Boone, Nellie Mitchell and husband Buddy of Zionville, and Frankie Miller and Husband Jim of Zionville and one brother-in-law, Blaine Campbell and wife Jean of Sugar Grove, one special niece Amy Moody and husband Steven and daughter Addison of Zionville and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father and mother Lee Thomas and Winnie Thomas she was preceded in death by, her husband, David "Red" Campbell, one brother, Ronnie Thomas, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Merle Campbell, three sisters-in-law, Mary Lawrence, Gladys Adams and one infant Katherine Campbell, and two brothers-in-law, Willard Campbell and Tommy Campbell.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Union Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Derick Wilson, Reverend David Lunceford, and Reverend Vernon Eller. Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00, prior to the service.
