Jimmy Ray South, age 64, of Vilas, passed away Friday April 21, 2023, at his home.

He was born March 7, 1959, in Avery County. A son of the late Johnny Austin and Margaret Rominger South. Jimmy loved the Lord and put his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he loved his church family. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising cattle and being outdoors. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Harmon South of the home, two daughters, Jamie Davis and husband Nathan of Crumpler and Martha Moretz and husband James of Boone, one grandson, Ethan Davis of Crumpler, two sisters, Betty Miller and husband Larry of Fleetwood and Kathy Lockhart of Morganton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at Antioch Baptist Church. Pastor Daniel Lawrence, Pastor Greg Thompson, Pastor Eric Cornett, Pastor J.C. Greene and Mr. Parker Lawrence will officiate.

Interment will follow in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.
