Jane Blanchard Shaw, of Deep Gap, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on August 27th surrounded by family and loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Irvin Stanley Blanchard and Grace Privott Blanchard, and her brother, Wayne Blanchard. 

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Shaw. She is also survived by her children; Laura Weaver (Jeff), Jennifer Ramsaur (Benjamin), Stephen Shaw (Kristin), and Susan Bradt (Mike). Her grandchildren, Cameron Habash (Patric), Ashley Green, Josiah Ramsaur, Lydia Choate (Noah), Micah Ramsaur, Regan Bradt, and Emma Bradt; her great grandchildren, Jordan Oakley and Lindsey Habash; her sisters, Norma White and Clara Blanchard, and a host of extended family and dear friends who will cherish the memories they shared with her.

Originally from Edenton, NC, Jane graduated from John A. Holmes High School, where she was a member of the high school band and proudly served as a majorette.

As a pastor’s wife, Jane faithfully served alongside her husband. As a youth leader she organized youth camping trips, 30-Hour Famine lock-ins, youth camps, and many other events. As a youth choir director, she conducted and choreographed several musicals in three different churches. Jane served as a Sunday School teacher and was actively involved in missions. She participated in NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief efforts and youth mission trips. She had a heart for Ukraine and traveled there seven times to serve on the mission field, where she touched countless lives and built lifelong friendships. Her work there included church building after the fall of the Soviet Union through the NC Baptist Ukraine Partnership, later continuing the work through Ukraine Challenge, coordinating several mission teams to spread the Gospel through Bible schools and youth camps.

Hospitality was just one way Jane showed her love for others. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends, opening her home and table to all. Holidays and family gatherings centered around food and laughter, with generous meals to ensure that no one left her table hungry. After retirement, Jane and Jim’s dream of a mountain home became reality. That home became a special gathering place for family and friends where Jane made sure her guests were abundantly fed and cared for and many fond memories were made.

Away from her many activities and responsibilities, Jane enjoyed the simple beauty of God’s creation. She loved planting flowers, herbs, and vegetables and took great pleasure in watching the birds that visited her feeders. She loved the Outer Banks, especially Ocracoke, and enjoyed the peaceful scenery along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Her family has fond memories of camping trips, excursions on the Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, and surrounding areas. They also enjoyed vacations spent at the beach.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held at Hampton Funeral Home on Sunday August 30th at 5 pm, with visitation from 3-5. A private family burial will be held at Campbell Memorial Chapel on Powder Horn Mountain on Monday August 31st.

The family wishes to honor Jane by wearing blues, greens, and neutral colors to represent the beauty of her beloved mountains and beaches.
