Franklin "Dee" Cook, age 90, of Boone, passed away October 24, 2022.
He was born November 27, 1931, in Watauga County. A son of the late Jordan V. Cook and Martha Wheeler Cook.
Dee Cook was a loving husband, dad, papaw, and brother. He served during the Korean War with the United States Air Force. Dee was a quiet man who showed his love mostly through his actions. He was a rock mason and carpenter. His work can be found all throughout Watauga County and the High Country where not a rock was laid, nor a nail hammered without intention and care. Dee was an avid reader and a very talented musician who played by ear. He played many instruments with the mandolin being his favorite. He played at church, jams, Bojangles, and festivals. As papaw, he very patiently introduced his grandkids to music. He loved to listen to them sing and play. His love of music and willingness to share his talent will be one of his most lasting legacies. Dee was a man of strong faith, and he instilled this in all of his family. We will forever be better for having known and having been loved by Dee Cook.
He is survived by wife Wilma Weatherly Cook; one son Byron Cook and his wife Claudia; granddaughters, Adrienne Cook, Korbel Cook; Grandsons, Jordan Cook, Carson Cook; Brother: Henry Cook; sisters, Naomi Greene, Shirley Triplett, Janice Tester. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father and mother he was preceded by one son Marcus Cook, brothers, Jordan W Cook, Stewart Cook, David Cook, Joseph Cook
