Florence "Flo" Simpkins Davis

BOONE, NC – Florence "Flo" Simpkins Davis passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, following a vehicle accident while tending to her horses at her home.

With her beloved husband of forty-four years, Glen Davis, Flo and Glen opened the Boone electrical contracting business Glen Davis Electric in 1983, which they owned and operated for 38 years.

An avid skier, Flo taught skiing at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort for 40 years. Even though she was a mountain girl, Flo loved the coast and was a certified captain of seafaring sailboats.

Born in Wilson, NC on February 19, 1954 to William Howard Simpkins and Nancy Peacock Chesson Simpkins, Flo graduated from Fike High School in 1972. She received an associate's degree from Lees McRae College in 1974 and a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University in 1976.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Whit Massey of Boone, and her son Will Davis and daughter-in-law Meghan, and three granddaughters, Waverly, Evie and Rosie Davis, all of Boone.

Flo was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, Margie and Glen Davis of Plymouth, NC, her sister and brother-in-law, Luree and Paul Harrison of Greenville, NC and brother-in-law Andy Howell of Sanford, NC.

She is survived by her sister, Marge Howell of Sanford, sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Chip Alexander of Raleigh, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Gene Hassell of Columbia, NC, sister and brother-in-law Kim and Dean Sisson of Lynchburg, Va., and nieces and nephews Brooke Jones (Andy) of Bulls Bay, NC, Emily Howell of Washington DC, Bryan Hudson (Alison) of Raleigh, NC, Ben Howell (Christian) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Christopher Hudson (Cherie) of Raleigh, NC, Marshall Sisson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A life-long animal lover, Flo also leaves behind her beloved horse Rose, donkey Eddie, and her dogs, Louie and Beau.

A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home, 683 Blowing Rock Road, Boone, NC.
