Obituary

Mrs. Evelina Miller Idol, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Evelina was born on April 18, 1939, the daughter of Lloyd and Bessie Miller, in Watauga County, NC. Evelina married the love of her life, Bob Idol, in January 1960 and together, until Bob's passing in 2018, they built a legacy of strong faith and family.

Evelina attended Cove Creek Elementary and High School and for the rest of her adult life, she found no greater joy than planning class reunions for her class and for Bob's. Before her retirement Evelina worked at New River Mental Health. She had a heart of service and commitment for her church, her community, her family and most importantly, her Lord. As a charter member of the Deep Gap Ruritan Club, she was one of the top salespeople of tickets for their annual steak dinner fundraiser. Many who knew her can attest to her generous gift of a fresh baked loaf of sourdough bread. Children all over the world have received a homemade jump rope or a pair of hand knitted slippers in their Operation Christian Child shoebox gift. At 83, she didn't attend a church service without wearing high heels and a fabulous hat. Whether it was a camp-out weekend, an old car trip with the High Country Travelers, a day at Dollywood, or a week's long road trip, she found joy in the journey. But no matter where they were, Evelina loved her family and the time spent with them, more than anything.

Evelina is survived by two sons; Bobby and wife, Alison of Deep Gap and Mike and wife, Jessica of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren Austin Idol, Maggie Idol Caudill, and husband Matthew of Deep Gap, NC, and Callie Idol Northern, and husband Austin of Blowing Rock, NC; great grandchildren Caroline and Clementine Caudill; sister Geneva Roark of Creston, NC, brother Bernard Miller and wife Margaret of Mountain City, TN, sister Juanita Greene of Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Bob, brother Leroy Miller and wife Ivalee, as well as her parents and stepmother, Ocie Miller.
