Dwight Wid
Jundt
Oct 12, 1934 — Oct 15, 2026
Boone
Dwight Wid Jundt 92, died peacefully at home on October 15, 2026, with his family by his side in Boone, NC. Dwight was born October 12, 1934, in Creighton, Nebraska to Phil and Helen Jundt whom he revered and loved deeply. He worked the farm, participated in 4H and went to school in a one-room schoolhouse to which he walked uphill both ways in the deep snow! His childhood led to a lifelong commitment to land, family and community.
Dwight was the first in his family to go to college. He was accepted to many universities yet wanted to remain close to family and entered the University of Nebraska as a 16-year-old freshman and graduated with a BS in Agricultural Economics. He joined the Farmhouse fraternity and remained good friends with many of his house brothers until his death. His service in ROTC and later in the army helped fund his tuition (as well as the sale of some prize Poland-China hogs).
He worked at Doane Agricultural Service in St. Louis, MO as an appraiser, was the President of Jundt Associates, Inc and Director of Florida Operations for the William Lyon Company. His book Buying and Selling Farmland conveyed his vast knowledge of the value of investment in farmland. He was truly one who never left the farm! In his book dedication he wrote: This book is dedicated to my mother and father who exemplify the millions of landowners whose roots bind our land together; and to my daughter for her appreciation of those ties to the land.
Dwight and his wife Kathy lived in Florida for 30 years. They bought a home in Hound Ears in 1998 and fell in love with North Carolina. A few years later, he led the member acquisition of the Hound Ears Club.
Dwight is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Mike Donlon and his ‘best boy’ Hank. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews and their children, as well as close family friend Diane Darrow and his strong community of friends in Hound Ears.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bruce and Dale Jundt.
Dwight was a generous contributor to many charities during his life. The kind and compassionate work from his caregivers these last months was a blessing to the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Amorem Hospice in his name.
A celebration of life is planned for this spring.
