Douglas Carl
Newton
Dec 7, 1943 — Aug 2, 2022
Boone
Boone, NC- Mr. Douglas Carl Newton, 78, of Boone, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at his home. Born December 7, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Douglas Euel and Marguerite Naomi Davis Newton.
Carl was known for his servant's heart, zeal for evangelism, in depth study of the Word, zest for learning, and passion for discipleship.
Carl held a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, along with two Masters Degrees from the University of New Mexico: one in Nuclear Engineering and one in Business Administration.
An avid Atheist for years, he became an ardent Christian at the age of 33, plugging into Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda Maryland where he met his wife Kathy in Ambassadors (a Christian singles group).
He was proud to serve his country as an officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later worked for the Department of Energy in Washington DC. After retiring he picked up two jobs for fun, a product manager at IRC in Boone, NC and filled in as an adjunct professor of Physics at Appalachian State University for 13 years.
He built the house of his dreams after reading the book "How to build your own home" twice! He chose to build that house in Boone, NC after doing a TON of research on the "best small towns in America".
In his retirement years he loved taking people out to lunch, reading and studying the Bible with friends, talking to strangers about the Gospel, leading Bible studies at ABF's Men's Breakfast, smoking a cigar on his beloved porch, playing ping pong with his wife and cooking extravagant meals for his family.
He will be remembered for his bad jokes, his tiny bright yellow smart car, and his ability to repair/fix/invent/jerry rig anything. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Carl is survived by his wife, Kathy Newton; 2 sons, Pastor Joshua Carl Newton and wife Diana of Chicago, IL; Benjamin Evan Newton of Hawaii; and 2 sisters, Jenese Handler of Silver Spring, MD and Elaine Svec of Edmond, OK.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Alliance Bible Fellowship with Pastor Scott Andrews and Pastor Michael Talley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church atrium.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Alliance Bible Fellowship, 1035 NC Hwy 105 Bypass, Boone, NC 28607.
Hampton Funeral Service of Boone is in charge of arrangements.
