Blowing Rock

Obituary

Diane Clem Hill, more commonly and lovingly known as "DeeDee" passed away at her multi-generational family home in Blowing Rock, NC on January 15, 2025. She was born in Charlotte, NC on April 20, 1949, and was the only daughter of Mildred & Clyde L Clem Jr.

As a young girl her family moved around due to her father's job. One of the stents they did was in New York City, where Diane became a regular on the Howdy Doody show and enjoyed window shopping in Harold's square.

Once the family moved to Atlanta, Diane pursued her dancing career under the director Robert Barnett, and The Atlanta Ballet Company. She performed in numerous productions of the Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. She graduated from Sandy Springs High School in 1967 and set off to attend college at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. While at Furman, she met her first husband, Jonathan Whitehill Clement. They married in September of 1968. After Jonathan graduated from Furman, he was commissioned in the army, which sent the small family to Fort Sill, OK for training then over to Neu Ulm Germany, where she loved exploring the nearby cities and using her language skills. She spoke German, French, and English. From Germany, the small family relocated to Marietta, GA and began expanding and raising their family.

Diane found her love for Real Estate in the early 80's and thus began her life-long career in Real Estate. She earned many awards and accolades throughout her career. Her proudest achievement was earning her diploma from the Graduate Realtor Institute. As she juggled raising 3 kids and a thriving real estate career, she managed to find her perfect match, James W. Hill Sr. Diane and Jim married in 1992. Diane 'retired' from Real Estate in 2004. However, sitting still was never something she learned how to do! She worked part-time retail in Atlanta until she and Jim moved to her family home in Blowing Rock, NC in 2007. Again, Diane didn't sit around for long. She and Jim traveled often and far. She was hell bent on filling their world map with pins showing all the places they explored together. She worked seasonally at Tweetsie and Appalachian Ski Mountain up until her husband's death in 2015. She also worked part-time at the High Country Host/Regional Visitor Center in Boone/Blowing Rock up until her death.

Diane was a one-of-a-kind woman, mother, and best friend with the biggest heart. For those she called friends and/or extended family you all know how much she loved each and everyone. Diane never knew a stranger and if you happened to grace her doorstep, you definitely never left feeling hungry.

Diane is survived by her Brother, Clyde Lee Clem III (Carole) of Marietta, GA; First Husband, Jonathan W. Clement Sr. (Cheryl) of Staunton, VA; Children: Catherine Clement Galardo of Kennesaw, GA; Jonathan W. Clement Jr. (Lauren) of Nashville, TN; Melanie E. Galardo of Covington, GA; ; Lindsay Jackson of Dickson, TN; Jennifer Clement of Birmingham, AL; and Christian J.
