DeNeece White Butler September 30, 1941 – August 23, 2026
DeNeece White Butler passed away peacefully at her home in Boone, North Carolina, on August 23, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved her dearly.
DeNeece was born on September 30, 1941, in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1959 and went on to attend Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.
DeNeece had a natural love of beauty and a wonderful talent for decorating, which led her to begin her career as an interior designer. On October 27, 1974, she married the love of her life, Cecil Victor “Vic” Butler, Jr. After their wedding, she turned her focus from interior design to raising their family and creating a life and home with Vic. During their 51 years of marriage, they traveled extensively, shared countless adventures, and built a lifetime of memories side by side.
Her creativity remained a part of DeNeece throughout her life. She never lost her love of decorating or her ability to make the spaces around her feel beautiful and welcoming. She also found another way to share her creativity through writing and was the published author of two books, A Winter Song and I Am Eller.
DeNeece had a special love for the mountains and found great happiness there. But some of her happiest moments were simply spent surrounded by the people she loved. She loved entertaining and opening her home to family and friends, hosting countless gatherings and parties throughout the years. Her home was a place where people came together, memories were made, and family and friendships were celebrated. She and Vic were blessed with many cherished friendships throughout their life together.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Cecil Victor “Vic” Butler, Jr.; her son, Victor Beaumont “Beau” Butler, and his wife, Shari; their children, Autumn Urquilla and her husband, Giovanni, Dalton Butler, and Sage Butler; her daughter, Frances Bliss Garza, and her husband, Jaime; their children, Isabella Garza and Gabriel Garza; and her great-grandsons, Leo and Jack Urquilla.
DeNeece is also survived by her sisters, Linda Johnson and her husband, Leo, and Beverly Jacob and her husband, Horst; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Gene White, and her brothers, Leon White and David White.
DeNeece lived a long and wonderful life filled with love, family, friendship, travel, creativity, and so many moments shared with the people who mattered most to her. She leaves behind more than memories. In the family she loved, the friendships she treasured, the homes she filled with warmth, and the words she put to paper, pieces of DeNeece will continue to live on. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
