David Ernie Cooper, age 74, of Newland passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at his home.

He was born April 18, 1949, in Crossnore, North Carolina. A son of the late John and Nelia Winebarger Cooper. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of Church of Jesus Christ in Roan Mountain, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Cooper of Newland, five children, Amanda Cooper of Morganton, Lesia Briggs and husband Travis of Burnsville, Davey Cooper and girlfriend, Jessica Blake of Newland, Tina Estep and husband Shawn of Roan Mountain and Victor Cooper of Newland, two sisters, Helen Shoemaker and Doris Shoemaker both of Newland, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and special friends, Charlie and Brenda McKinney of Roan Mountain, Tennessee.

A memorial service for David Ernie Cooper will be conducted Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Church of Jesus Christ in Roan Mountain. Reverend Charlie McKinney will officiate.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Church of Jesus Christ in Roan Mountain.
