Obituary

Connie Arlene Cowan Larned, age 69, of Boone, departed peacefully in her sleep the morning of December 26, 2023. She awoke in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born October 12, 1954, on an Airforce base in Osaka, Japan, she was the daughter of Thomas Cowan and Johnnie Mae Cowan.

Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a faithful partner to her husband whom she adored. Her deep love for her children and grandchildren was unconditional and sacrificial. As the wife of a pastor, she was very active in serving the needs of those in her church. Connie was an advocate for those struggling with addiction and worked for many years at Hebron Colony Ministries, which remained dear to her heart. Together, she and her husband facilitated the opening of a new addiction recovery home in the New Tazewell area of Tennessee. Connie had a gift of compassion that allowed her to be a dedicated caregiver to the elderly.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Elrod Keith Larned of Boone; daughter Christine Larned and fiancé, Phillip Berry; son, Phillip Larned and wife Michelle of Lowell, Massachusetts; son, Joseph Larned and wife, Dana of Boone; and son Stephen Larned and wife, April of Lenoir. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren; Eric and Emily Zimbelmann; Sarah, Sylas and Samantha Larned; Kyle Haddix, Haylei and Ava Larned; Selah, Mercy and Taliah Larned and 2 great grandchildren; Mia and Stella Taylor. She is also survived by her sisters, Peggy (Cowan) Nemeth and husband Ken Gilham of Cape Coral, Florida and Deborah (Cowan) Anderson and husband, Alan of Fort Myers, Florida, and many special friends.

In addition to her beloved father and mother, Connie was preceded in death and is now reunited with her best friend, Judy Warnock.

A memorial service for Connie Larned will be conducted Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 2'oclock pm at Mount Bethel Reformed Church, 1211 Goforth Rd, Blowing Rock, NC 28605. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at Meadowbrook Inn, 711 Main St Blowing Rock, NC 28605.
