Blowing Rock
Chilo Hardin Greene, age 78, of Blowing Rock passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at The Foley Center.
He was a Loving husband and father to three children and seven grandchildren. He ran an owned several restaurants more notably Western Steer and Greene's Grill in the county and others in the surrounding counties. He also owned a gun and collectible store in Wilkes County. He loved sports, hunting, fishing and working on guns. He was a long-standing member of Rutherwood Baptist church in Boone. There he had several positions he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and RA leader. He always in many aspects VBS for many years also. He also led and cooked the breakfasts for Sunday mornings. Not only did he love his children but also loved and had a special relationship with his nieces Phyllis Beckham and Darlene Shelton and friends John and Jeannie Kahle, whom were like his own children.
He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Greene Miller of N. Wilkesboro and Kelly Coffey and husband Ivan of Blowing Rock, one son, Billy Greene of Ashe County, four granddaughters, Dominique Kirby and Lexie Nunn of N. Wilkesboro, Courtney Greene of Boone, and Daisy Coffey of Blowing Rock, three grandsons, Chase Miller and wife Bre of Raleigh, Nick Nunn of Front Royal, Virginia and Emmit Coffey of Blowing Rock and three nieces, Phyllis Brookshire Beckham and Darlene Shelton of Wilkesboro, and Star Brown of Morganton.
A celebration of life will be conducted Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Rutherwood Baptist Church. Pastor Tim Dockery will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. AMOREM's capital campaign to build a hospice patient care unit in the High Country.
