Betty Lou was a valued member of the Beech Creek Community. In her younger years she attended and graduated from Lees McRae college in Banner Elk. She married the love of her life, Elbert Stansberry. They then opened and ran Stansberry grocery, a general store in the Beech Creek community, for 47 years. Upon retiring she utilized the building to open a thrift store that was open on Saturdays. She used her 50+ years in business as an opportunity to fellowship and love on our community members and customers. She gave back to her community by helping to establish the Beech Mountain Community Center, raised money and supported Relay For Life and served her local church in many ways. She was a deacon's wife, pianist and secretary for many years at Beech Valley Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed sitting on her porch, playing with her cats, reading, cooking/baking, completing cross word puzzles and watching game shows. Above all, she loved her community, church and family.
