Betsy Norris Stanbery was born on February 18, 1933, and peacefully passed away on September 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Robert and Nina Norris.

Betsy lived her life serving the Lord and her family. She set an example of Christian faith as a daughter, wife and mother to her children and grandchildren. Her faith in the Lord remained unshakeable through times of joy, trial, and sadness.

Betsy was a devoted wife to Harold for 53 years. They were stationed in many places while Harold served our country in the Marine Corps before finding their way back to Boone, NC. Being a mother to her six children was one of the great highlights of Betsy’s life. Her children’s happiness and wellbeing were always a priority to her, and they loved her deeply in return.

Betsy loved flowers and gardening. Her home was surrounded by beautiful blooming flowers, year-round, and she loved sharing plant starters with others so they could enjoy flowers as beautiful as hers. Her garden was always plentiful, and nothing ever went to waste. Betsy taught her children how to can vegetables and freeze food so they would always have fresh food.

Their love of produce and flowers led them to open their own produce stands. They loved talking to their frequent customers who she brought joy to as she spread her love of Christ through her words and actions.

Betsy finally stopped working but never stopped moving. You could find her with her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren playing or walking around the house, tending to flowers or blueberries. She loved being surrounded by her family and always found joy in the simple moments spent together.

The way Betsy loved her family and her servant’s heart will live on for many years through all the generations who have been blessed by her.

She is survived by her four sons, Michael (Glenda) Stanbery, David Stanbery, Mark (Sandra) Stanbery, Richard (Heather) Stanbery and son-in-law Johnny Lentz. Betsy’s grandchildren: April (Tim) Greene, Stephanie (Nathan) Kennedy, Cindy Lentz (Billy), Adam (Hollie) Stanbery, Amber (Aaron) Saine, Callie (Lucas) Isaacs, and Brooklyn Stanbery. There are 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Stanbery, daughters: Wilda Honeycutt and Brenda Lentz, a grandson Anthony Koroll, brothers: Estel Norris, Coy Norris, Raevon Norris, sisters: Jessie Padgett, Maebelle Denny, Unadell Ward, Bertie Norris.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday September 27, 2026, at Bethelview Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Bethelview Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.
