William C. "Bill" Critcher

Mr. William C. "Bill" Critcher, age 88, of 4295 Bamboo Road, Boone, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center.

Mr. Critcher was born August 8, 1924 in Watauga County, a son of the late Fred R. and Lillie Mae Hartley Critcher. He was a retired farmer and produce company operator. Mr. Critcher was a member and past deacon of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

Mr. Critcher is survived by two sons, Gary Critcher and wife Linda, and Basil Critcher and wife Carol, all of Boone; one granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Critcher and her special friend Darren Bebe of Boone; three grandsons, Matthew Critcher, Benjamin Critcher, and Gary Church and wife Amy, all of Boone; two great-granddaughters, Emily and Haley Church, both of Boone; a special dear friend, Edna Aldrich of Palm City, Florida and Blowing Rock; five brothers, Carl Critcher and wife Ethel, of Boone, Dwight Critcher and wife Virginia of Deep Gap, Tommy Critcher and wife Robbie of Boone, Sammy Critcher and wife Gloria of Deep Gap, and Ray Critcher and wife Joan of Boone, and three sisters, Margaret Cook and husband Roger of Boone, Joanne Welborn and husband Jack of Deep Gap, and Faye Castor of Cary. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Ford Critcher; two sisters, Selma Hollar and Mary Cook; one brother, Jerry Critcher; an infant brother, Don Critcher; one sister-in-law, Faye Ford Storie; four brothers-in-law, Ledford Cook, Lige Hollar, David Castor, and Clark Storie, and his father and mother-in-law, Stacey and Martha Harmon Ford.

Funeral services for William C. "Bill" Critcher will be conducted Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013, at 11:00 o'clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Bud Russell, Dr. Greg Heisler, and Dr. Dan Meyer. Entombment will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 5:30 until 8:30 PM, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Critcher Family Cemetery Fund or to the Ford Family Cemetery Fund, in care of Gary Critcher, 547 Blackberry Road, Boone, North Carolina, 28607 or to Basil Critcher, 171 Mutton Creek Lane, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.
