James Edward Sudderth, age 89, of Johnson City, formerly of Avery County, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Broadmore Assisted Living in Johnson City.
Mr. Sudderth was born February 10, 1923 in Avery County, a son of the late James Steele Sudderth and Essie Reece Sudderth. He was a retired contractor and served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Sudderth is survived by his wife, Pauline Blalock Sudderth of the home; two daughters, Sara Buchanan and husband Dante, and Jeanie Williamson and husband Rich Molnar, all of Newland; four granddaughters, Betsy Austin, Rachel Buchanan, Suzanne Cabrera, and Scarlett Woody, and one grandson, Chris Smith. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Verner Miller, Helen Sutphin, and Wilda Sanders.
Funeral services for James Edward Sudderth will be conducted Friday afternoon, December 28, 2012, at 3:00 o'clock, at Aaron Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 2:00 until 3:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Preacher Mike Garland. Military graveside rites will follow, provided by American Legion Post 130, at Aaron Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends, following the funeral service.
